Players
Sign up for a season
Use the signup link from your commissioner. It looks like tallypuck.com/your-league/join. Make an account with your email and a password, fill in your details, and rate yourself from 1 to 5 on each skill. An honest answer helps make fair teams.
Played in the league before? Sign in first and your details fill in for you, so signing up again takes one tap.
Players under 18
We ask your date of birth once, and only you and your commissioner see it. Players 13 to 17 add a parent or guardian's email, and that person gets a copy of league emails. Players under 18 show as "Player" on the public site until their 18th birthday.
Children under 13 can't sign up online. A parent or guardian asks the commissioner, who adds them by name.
Signing in and passwords
Sign in at tallypuck.com/signin with your email and password, or tap Email me a sign-in link instead. Forgot your password? Tap Forgot your password? on the same page and follow the email.
Emails not arriving? Check spam or promotions, and mark the email as not spam.
Tryouts and your bib number
If your league runs tryouts, you can sign up for them when you sign up for the season. You get a bib number to wear so evaluators can score your skills, and it shows on My page. You can still walk in on the night.
Your team page
Once rosters are out, My team in your league's menu shows your team's schedule, lines and message board. Tap I'm in or I'm out for each game so your captain knows who's coming.
My page has your games, your team and your tryout details in one place.
Choosing your emails
On your account page, turn game reminders and league announcements on or off. Every reminder and announcement also has a link at the bottom to stop them. Emails about your signup, your team and the draft (when you're a captain) always come.
Hiding your name, or deleting your account
On your account page, tick Hide me on the public site and visitors see "Player" instead of your name. People in your league still see it.
Delete my account is at the bottom of the same page. Your name, photo, email and sign-in are deleted, and the games you played stay in team totals as "Former player". It can't be undone. See the privacy policy for the details.
Captains
Draft night
You get the draft link by email before the draft. Open it on your phone and sign in. When you're on the clock, the screen says Your pick: choose a player below.
Before the draft, tap Add to list on the players you want, in order. If your time runs out, the app picks the top player still on your list, then the best rated player left.
Didn't get the email? Ask your commissioner to press Email the captains now.
Setting lines
On your team page, set your lines before each game. Use lines of 4, or forward pairs and D pairs set separately. Your league picks the starting style, and you can switch. Your team and the commissioner see your lines.
Scorekeepers
Setting up the rink iPad
Nobody signs in on the iPad. The commissioner makes a setup code on the Scorekeeping page and sends it to whoever has the iPad. On the iPad, open the link in that message, or go to tallypuck.com/your-league/score and tap Use the setup code.
Give the iPad a name, like Rink iPad. It asks to join, and it starts working once the commissioner approves it. You only do this once.
Keeping score
Pick the game, then check in who's here: tap each player who showed up, and add subs. At each stoppage, tap Goal or Penalty, then the players. A mistake can be undone for 10 seconds, and edited after.
At the end, finish the game. It goes to the commissioner to approve, and then it counts in the standings and stats. You can still fix something until they approve it.
When the Wi-Fi drops
Keep going. Everything is saved on the iPad and sent when the connection comes back. The top of the screen shows when everything is saved.
Game codes on a phone
No iPad? The commissioner can hand out a game code. Open your league's score page on any phone, type the code (6 letters and numbers), and keep score the same way.
Pickup games
For a game that isn't on the schedule, tap Start a pickup game on the scorekeeping page. Name the two teams, pick periods or a running clock, and keep goals, penalties and the clock. A pickup game stays on that device and doesn't count in league stats.
Commissioners
Starting a league
Go to tallypuck.com/start. Make your commissioner account, name the league and pick its address (that's the link you'll share), add your divisions top level first, and pick a preset for your kind of league. Everything can be changed later in Settings. Your first season is free.
A new season and signup
On the Seasons page, Start a new season, then Open signup. Share your signup link: tallypuck.com/your-league/join. The season moves along from signup to finished on the same page.
Players and ratings
The Players page lists everyone signed up this season, by division. Tap a number to rate a player.
You can put someone on a team by first and last name before they sign up. When a new player signs up with the same name, they're linked automatically and you get a message. Mark anyone you add by name as under 18 if they are.
Importing past seasons
Have stats from before TallyPuck? On the Players page, tap Import past stats. Choose an Excel (.xlsx) or .csv file, or copy the cells from Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers and paste them in. Use one row per player per season, with their totals: games, goals, assists and penalty minutes, or wins, losses and goals against for goalies.
Match your columns, then check any names that might be the same person ("Is Mike S. the same as Mike Smith?"). Anyone new is added by name and picks up their stats when they sign up. Importing a season again replaces it, and any import can be taken back out. The stats show on draft cards, in the balance check and in attendance.
Running tryouts
On the Tryouts page, set up the challenges, hand out bib numbers and invite evaluators. Evaluators score on their phone or an iPad: type the bib number, the score and Enter. Scores turn into skill ratings for the draft.
Teams and the draft
On the Teams page, pick which teams play this season and who captains each one. On the Draft page, set each division's draft: the order, the pick timer and the time. Captains get the link by email 10 minutes after you set the time.
Try a mock draft first with the real player pool; nothing is saved to rosters. After the draft, check the balance and publish rosters, and every player is emailed their team.
Building the schedule
On the Schedule page, enter the rink's weekly time slots and any weeks off, then build the season. Drag a game to move it or swap it, assign goalies, and publish when it's right. Scores you already know can be typed in there too.
Scorekeeping and approving games
On the Scorekeeping page, choose how games are kept (the league iPad, game codes, or both), make a setup code for the iPad, and approve finished games. Approved games count in the standings and stats. Approving can be turned off in Settings so finished games count straight away.
Playoffs
On the Playoffs page, choose the teams and the length of each series, then make the bracket. Top seeds get byes when the numbers don't divide evenly, and champions show on the league site.
Your site, sponsors and news
The Site page sets your look: one of six themes, your colors, logo and cover photo, with a preview before you save. The Sponsors page adds sponsors and where each one shows. The News page posts to your league page, for everyone or for players only.
Helpers
In Settings, under Helpers, invite people by email and pick the jobs each one can do. Helpers sign in with their own email and only see those jobs. Only you can change settings and branding.
League emails
The Email card on your commissioner Home page shows whether email is working, and Send me a test email checks it. Which emails go out is set in Settings, under Notifications.
Downloading your league's data
On your commissioner Home page, Download everything gives you every player, roster, game and stat as spreadsheets in one file. It works on any plan, any time.
